Sep 10 2009 Bellefeuille - Suspicious Activity
3 men, early 20's in hooded sweatshirts were walking on our street. They
were stopping at each house for a few minutes, pointing to parts of the
house and cars and talking, staying a few minutes at each house.
We are concerned that these may be people "scoping" the neighborhood for
future burglaries or vandalism (given the vandalism that recently occurred
on Tecumseh).
If you not anything like this, please contact DDO Public Security:
514-684-6111 or 911.

Patrol protocol guidelines/tips
This will be a simple primer on safe patrolling protocols for those of you who will be headed out there to patrol your neighbourhoods. We wish for you to do this in a safe manner for you so as not to jeopardize your safety. There will be a proper training or information session put together for this in the near future.
In the meantime, we would ask you to follow these simple rules to be safe:
1 Always patrol in pairs, may it be on foot or in a vehicle.
2 When patrolling by vehicle, obey all traffic laws. If you plan on driving below the speed limit, allow other vehicles to pass you safely.
3 Have a means of communication on you at all times, make sure your batteries are charged before heading out.
4 Bring a working flashlight.
5 Bring a pen and paper to take notes.
6 Know where you are at all times. This sounds pretty obvious, but when you are calling 911 to report something urgent, it’s not the time to wonder on what street and near what civic number you are. Keep track as you are moving about the neighbourhood.
7 When you see suspicious activity, report it to 911 immediately.
8 Do not under any consideration confront suspicious individuals or vehicles. You have no idea who you may be dealing with. Observe from a distance and call it in to 911.
9 Be aware! Although a simple concept, this is the key to good patrolling and keeping you safe. Awareness of your surroundings and your situation should always be first on your mind when actively patrolling. After a few shifts, you will be able to recognize people and vehicles who belong, or not, in your sector by being observant.
We will have stickers coming in any day now that you will be able to put in the back window of your car to identify yourself while on patrol. We will also provide volunteers with caps in the near future to identify them to Neighbourhood Watch. Remember that the Police department is responsible for any and all criminal activity and that the Patrol Service is responsible for by-law enforcement.
